CAFIL Kirinyaga Edition - Empowering Creatives in Arts and Film

Hundreds of creatives and stakeholders participated in the Creatives in Arts and Film Literacy Programme (CAFIL) – Kirinyaga Edition, held at the Abai Lodges and Spa, on Monday 16th December 2024.

The CAFIL Programme is an initiative of the Kenya Film Classification Board, in partnership with the Sports, Arts, and Social Development Fund (SASDF). It aims to enhance film literacy and ensure responsible content creation.

The forum, brought together filmmakers, actors, musicians, visual artists, and stakeholders from the creative industry and served as a platform for exchanging ideas, addressing challenges local creatives face, and exploring opportunities for collaboration and growth within the film sector.

Speaking at the forum, the KFCB’s Ag. CEO, Mr Paskal Opiyo, said the CAFIL is designed to empower creatives to create content that promotes and reflects Kenya’s culture and National aspirations, as well as safeguarding minors and vulnerable groups from exposure to harmful content.

“This Programme is hinged on the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and the Vision 20230, focusing on youth empowerment and economic development through arts,” Mr. Opiyo said, adding that the Programme educates filmmakers on legal, ethical and technological aspects of content creation, thereby enhancing industry networking, collaboration and innovation.
