Consume Media Content & Use the Internet Responsibly, Students Urged

Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) officers on Friday, 30th May 2025, sensitized students and teachers of Mwakirunge Secondary School in Mombasa County on responsible content consumption, internet usage, as well as the Board’s regulatory mandate.
While speaking to more than 400 students at the forum, Ms. Nancy Munyi, Compliance Officer, urged the students to be mindful of the content they consume from various media platforms, including social media, especially while at home, when they have greater access.
Ms. Munyi also emphasised the need to use the internet positively for learning and educational purposes, saying that the internet can have a negative impact when used irresponsibly.
Mr. Melkio Raruoch, Senior Principal, Mwakirunge Secondary School, applauded the Board for organizing the sensitisation forum, adding that students are vulnerable and need guidance on responsible media consumption and internet usage.
The film Board continues to collaborate with institutions of learning, especially through its Media Literacy Program and public sensitisation initiatives, which seek to create awareness on the responsible consumption of audio-visual content.
KFCB is a State Corporation under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, mandated to regulate film and broadcast audio-visual content to ensure that it conforms to Kenya’s culture, moral values, and national aspirations, as well as ensure that children are protected from exposure to inappropriate content.
