KFCB Briefs PS Fikirini at Inaugural Meeting

The Kenya Film Classification in Board (KFCB) Ag. CEO CPA Paskal Opiyo, yesterday (24th April 2025), led a section of the Management team for an inaugural meeting with the new Principal Secretary (PS) for the State Department of Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, Mr. Fikirini Jacobs.
The inaugural meeting served as a platform for the PS to learn more about the KFCB's mandate which is anchored on the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya, as well as the Board's programs and campaigns.
The PS acknowledged the KFCB's role in content regulation, especially in ensuring that audio-visual content conforms to Kenya’s culture, values and National aspirations, and protecting children from exposure to harmful content.
During the meeting, the PS was also taken through the Legal and Regulatory Frameworks recently developed by the Board to buttress the Films and Stage Plays Act in the wake of changing regulatory environment, mainly driven by technological advancements.
These Legal and Regulatory interventions developed by the Board include: Films and Stage Plays (Self-Classification) Regulations, Films and Stage Plays (Film Censorship) Regulations, Films and Stage Plays (Cinematographic Films Forms and Fees) Regulations, Films and Stage Plays (Film Classification) Guidelines and Films and Stage Plays (Distribution and Exhibition) Regulations.
The KFCB team also briefed on the Board's Sinema Mashinani Initiative, the Parents’ Digital Literacy Programme (PaDiL), which targets parents and caregivers and the Media Literacy Programme which target consumers of film and broadcast content.
Speaking during the meeting, CPA Opiyo, reiterated the KFCB's commitment to ensuring a facilitative regulatory environment to support the growth of the film industry for job opportunities and wealth creation in with the fifth pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
