Monitor What Children Are Watching During This School Holiday Period

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) is a State agency mandated by the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya, to regulate film and broadcast content to ensure that audio-visual content meant for exhibition or distribution in public spaces conforms to Kenya's culture, national values, and aspirations.
Regulation is also meant to ensure that children and vulnerable adults are protected from exposure to inappropriate content, which, in essence, is a collective responsibility.
In line with our consumer advisory function, KFCB appeals to parents, guardians, and caregivers to monitor the audio-visual content that children are watching on TV, accessing online, or through other broadcast media channels, and guiding them appropriately.
Furthermore, the KFCB encourages parents to set screen-time rules and limit the amount of time children spend on TV and other broadcast channels during this time when schools are closed.
The Board also urges content creators to be mindful of the content that they post on various platforms that are likely to be accessed by children and minors.
Additionally, KFCB cautions video-show and play station operators, as well as other film exhibitors, against admitting children into their premises where they might get exposure to adult content.
The KFCB remains committed to enhancing parents'/guardians' and caregivers' awareness of emerging technologies through its Parents Digital Literacy (PADIL) Program to empower them with skills on how to monitor and guide children on content access and consumption through digital platforms.
