The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) represented by Ms. Emmah Irungu, Head of Compliance Department, on Tuesday 6th February 2024, joined representatives from other public and private sector agencies in marking the #SaferInternetDay2024, held at the A.S.K Nakuru Show Ground.
The #SaferInternetDay2024 celebrations brought together representatives from various public and private sector agencies to create awareness on safer internet usage among children.
While addressing the media on the sidelines of the event, Ms. Irungu reaffirmed KFCB's commitment to protecting children from exposure to inappropriate audio-visual content accessed through the internet and broadcast channels.
"KFCB has continued to collaborate with relevant public and private sector agencies to create awareness on child online safety and digital parenting with the aim of equipping parents with skills and knowledge on responsible use of the internet by children," she said.
Ms. Irungu said that KFCB is implementing the Parents Digital Literacy Program (PADIL) whose objective is to enhance the capacity of parents and caregivers to enable them to guide children on responsible consumption of audio-visual content.
The PADIL is also tailored to create awareness of the effects of media content and emerging technologies on children.
The Board is committed to executing its mandate as provided for in the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya, as well as supporting initiatives geared towards spurring the growth of the Creative Economy in line with the Fifth Pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), our Strategic Plan (2022-2027) and the PC targets for the FY 2023/2024.
The KFCB is a State Corporation under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, mandated to regulate film and broadcast content to ensure that content conforms to Kenyaโs culture, moral values, and National aspirations, as well as to protect children from exposure to inappropriate audio-visual content.
