CEO Wambua graces Deaf Kenya Film Festival

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Ag. CEO Mr. Christopher Wambua, graced the closing ceremony of the Deaf Film Kenya Festival, 2022, at the Kenya National Theatre, on 6th December 2022.

While addressing participants, Wambua said that KFCB is committed to developing mechanisms that will see the deaf community access the Board’s regulatory services at discounted fees. These include; filming licenses, film classification and utilization of the Nairobi Film Centre (NFC).

This was the second edition of the Festival which seeks to provide the foundational pillar for the deaf filmmakers, actors and actresses through Kenya Sign Language.

“I am extremely happy to see that the deaf community is part of content generation. I have also seen models and dancers who can compete with the hearing counterparts," said Wambua, adding that you need to explore the deaf community needs to seek opportunities in the film sector.

A total of 11 categories were awarded, including best documentary category, best faith-based film, best video comedy, best video drama, among others.

The Deaf Film Festival concept is not a new phenomenon and countries like USA, Germany, Argentina and Italy hold annual festivals of the same.
