Government Calls for Responsible Gaming Advertising at the Gaming Tech Summit Africa 2026
The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Ag. CEO, Ms. Nelly Muluka, has urged stakeholders in the gaming sector to strike a balance between business interests and consumer protection in their adverts, in order to ensure the safety of minors and other vulnerable groups exposed to gaming platforms through advertising.
While speaking at a panel discussion themed “Stakeholder Dialogue and Advertising – How Much Is Enough?” during the Gaming Tech Summit Africa held in Nairobi on June 4, 2026, Ms. Muluka acknowledged the importance of the gaming sector and the opportunities it presents but called for collective responsibility and balance in advertising practices in line with the law.

She further stated that gaming advertising falls within the Board’s regulatory mandate, emphasizing that the Board reviews and classifies all advertisements to ensure they are age appropriate.
“We also encourage parents, caregivers, and guardians to monitor the content accessed by children under their care, including gaming and betting, and guide them accordingly,” she added.

KFCB is a State regulatory agency mandated under the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222, to regulate audio-visual content, including advertisements, in order to promote a safe and responsible audiovisual environment for children and other vulnerable audiences.

The summit, themed “Building Africa’s Sustainable and Scalable Gaming Tech Industry,” brought together stakeholders from Kenya and other Anglophone and Francophone countries to discuss regulatory frameworks and emerging issues shaping the sector.
