Kenya Film Summit 2021

The Kenya Film Classification Board today took part in the official opening of the 2nd Edition of the Kenya Film Summit (KEFiS), at the KCA University, Nairobi.
The two-day Summit organized by the Film Lecturers and Trainers Association of Kenya (FLeTA-K) in partnership with KCA University has brought together film stakeholders, students, trainers and lecturers from different universities, colleges and other learning institutions in the country.
Themed: 'Digital Transformation in Film Production and Pedagogy', the Summit’s main objective is to initiate an extensive discussion on film research in Kenya, provide a platform for the presentation of research papers on Kenyan and African cinema, showcase and celebrate student films from various institutions and initiate a business-based approach to student film production through pitch-based film funding for student’s collaborative projects.

The Board's Film Registration Officer, Mr. Alexander Marcos Masiga, made a presentation on the topic: 'Licensing and Classification. The role of State Agencies in Supporting Film Pedagogy.'
Mr. Masiga also highlighted on the Board’s regulatory mandate as stipulated in the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya as well as programs and campaigns the Board is spearheading in Kenya’s creative sector.

The Board is keen on collaborating with other like-minded agencies from both the private and public sector to support initiatives that are geared towards empowering local content creators and artistes, besides executing its regulatory mandate. The two-day Summit ends on 1st October, 2021.
