KFCB Bans Blue Whale Online game in Kenya

This morning at Turtle Bay, Watamu in Kilifi, KFCB CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua announced the ban of the “Blue Whale” online game that encourages kids to engage in various dangerous tasks, including cutting parts of their body with a razor and ultimately committing suicide. The game has been reported to have contributed to the deaths of scores of kids who engaged in it. It has several versions that have been available online exposing kids to great harm. One of the versions on Netflix titled “13 Reasons Why” encourages kids to engage in suicidal activities. The Board has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the game in line with the provisions of the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222. The Board is working with Cybercrime police and other Government agencies to block other websites that are illegally providing access to this game.
