KFCB Committed to Championing Reforms to Spur Film Industry Growth

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a facilitative regulatory environment to spur the growth of the film industry for job opportunities and wealth creation in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

While speaking during a panel discussion on ‘Creative Economy, Talent and Innovation’, on the sidelines of the 8th Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) Annual Conference, held on Wednesday, 21st May 2025, at the Kenya School of Government, Nairobi, Mr. Marcos Masiga, KFCB’s Ag. Manager, Licensing, indicated that the Board has proposed the review of regulatory frameworks that, once ratified, will make obtaining licenses easier for filmmakers and promote the ease of doing business for the film industry stakeholders.

Mr. Masiga further said that the Board will continue to collaborate with film industry stakeholders in championing reforms and supporting initiatives aimed at empowering local creatives.

The panellists comprised Mr. Michael Pundo, CEO, Kenya Cultural Centre, a representative from the Kenya Film Commission (KFC), KCA University, Department of Film Services (DFS) and renowned local filmmakers.
Themed: “Shaping Pathways to Future Jobs: Unlocking Opportunities for the Youth, the 3-day Conference organised by KIPPRA in collaboration with other partners provides a platform for knowledge exchange from like-minded institutions, bringing together state and non-state actors to discuss pathways and opportunities to sustainable future jobs for the youth.
