President Ruto Unveils KFCB’s State-of-the-Art Cine-Mobile Truck to Empower Creatives

The President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, PhD, C.G.H, has officially launched the Kenya Film Classification Board’s (KFCB) state-of-the-art cinema-mobile truck that aims to promote local talent and provide platforms for youth to showcase and monetize their creative works.
The cine-mobile truck launched by the President on Tuesday, 12th August 2025 during the International Youth Day Celebrations at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in Kakamega County, is a key component of the Sinema Mashinani Initiative that seeks to support the film industry, create job opportunities and foster wealth creation in line with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

KFCB CEODuring the launch, the President commended KFCB for pioneering the project and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to helping creatives earn from their talent through initiatives aligned with BETA.
While briefing the President, KFCB’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, CPA Paskal Opiyo, said the cine-mobile truck is a modern mobile cinema that features a 63-square-metre LED screen housed in a container with a hydraulic lift system. It is self-sufficient, equipped with a power generator and a high-capacity sound system capable of serving up to 800 people.

Mobile Truck“The Sinema Mashinani seeks to address challenges in the film industry, including inadequate content classification facilities and limited platforms for screening local productions. It also aims to promote clean content, create jobs, and drive wealth creation in the creative sector,” the Ag CEO said.
He added that the initiative will help nurture talent at the grassroots and give young people a platform to showcase their creativity while promoting Kenya’s culture and values.

KFCB DirectorsFurther, the Ag. CEO noted that KFCB intends to leverage the initiative to raise awareness and advocate for the consumption of local content through theatre and film.
In addition, the cine-mobile truck will work alongside the Nairobi Film Centre (NFC) to expand access to film opportunities, foster local storytelling, and drive economic growth within the industry.

ManagementAs the Government agency mandated to regulate audio-visual content in Kenya, the Ag CEO reiterated KFCB’s commitment to creating a facilitative regulatory environment to spur the growth of the film sector for job opportunities for the youth and wealth creation in line with BETA.
In addition, through regulatory reforms, the Board has proposed the Films and Stage Plays Regulations and Guidelines, which, once adopted and ratified, will encourage additional investment in the film sector and provide opportunities for local filmmakers to monetise their talent.

Moreover, through initiatives like the Creatives in Arts and Film Literacy (CAFIL) Programme, the KFCB aims to nurture a vibrant creative industry that plays a crucial role in driving cultural, economic, and sustainable development.
Present during the launch were Hon. Salim Mvurya, Cabinet Secretary (CS), Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Mr. Fikirini Jacobs, Principal Secretary (PS), State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, KFCB Chairperson, Hon. John Njogu Njoroge, HSC, KFCB Board of Directors, among other senior Government officials.
