PS with CEO VISIT 1

Earlier today, the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) hosted Mr. Fikirini Jacobs, the Principal Secretary (PS) for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, at our Uchumi House Offices, Nairobi. The visit marked his maiden courtesy call on the Board.
During the visit, the PS was briefed more on KFCB’s mandate as outlined in the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya, and on key programs that the Board is implementing to create a facilitative regulatory environment that supports the growth of the film sector for job creation and wealth generation.

The PS also applauded the Board on its newly launched cine-mobile truck, describing it as a state-of-the-art innovation that will help drive the film industry by creating opportunities for young people in the sector.
He emphasized on the need for teamwork, integrity, and accountability in all interventions geared towards youth empowerment, while stressing the importance of mentorship in advancing Government programs and nurturing future leaders.

CEO PASKAL OPIYO

On his part, KFCB’s Acting CEO, CPA Paskal Opiyo, outlined key interventions the Board is spearheading to spur growth in the film sector in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). These include proposed regulatory reforms, the Creatives in Arts and Literacy (CAFIL) Program designed to enhance film literacy and promote responsible content creation, the Parents Digital Literacy (PADIL) Program aimed at empowering parents to guide children on safe and responsible content consumption, and the Media Literacy and Consumer Awareness Program, which seeks to sensitize the public on responsible consumption of audio-visual content.

CPA Opiyo further underscored the key role of the cine-mobile truck in taking local content to grassroots, expanding opportunities for creatives to showcase their work and earn from their craft.
Later, PS Jacobs, accompanied by the KFCB team, toured the Nairobi Film Centre (NFC), formerly Nairobi Cinema. The 850-seater facility was acquired by KFCB to provide creatives with an affordable platform to showcase their diverse art.

Since its commissioning, the NFC has consistently hosted film screenings, stage performances, and other artistic showcases, making it a vital hub in Kenya’s film sector.
Plans are underway to rehabilitate and upgrade the facility into a state-of-the-art auditorium that will provide creatives with an enhanced platform to showcase their work and generate income from their craft.
