META to collaborate with Government agencies on Content Monetization

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), Ag. CEO Mr. Paskal, Opiyo, today, 16th October 2024, joined the Principal Secretary (PS), State Department of Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, Mr. Ismail Madey, PS, State Department of ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, among other key players in the Digital Economy space in a meeting to discuss emerging issues pertaining to the digital economy.
During the meeting, Meta’s Director of Public Policy, East and Horn of Africa, Ms. Mercy Ndegwa, highlighted the power of Meta’s platforms in promoting the growth of digital economy.
The role of Meta in enhancing Government communication to the public and its approach on safety and cyber- hygiene were also discussed.

The meeting was informed by bilateral conversations on the promotion of the digital economy through monetization and online safety, between H.E. the President Dr. William Ruto and Sir Nick Glegg, President Global Affairs, Meta. 
Also present were, PS, State Department for Tourism, John Lekakeny Ololtuaa, and members of the National Assembly’s Communication, Information and Innovation Committee.

The KFCB has been at the fore-front in championing for online digital hygiene by empowering parents and caregivers to guide children on responsible consumption of audio-visual content as well as utilizing digital spaces safely. 
Through the Parents’ Digital Literacy Programme (PaDiL), the KFCB partners with like-minded institutions to create awareness on the effects of media content and emerging technologies on children.
