KFCB is mandated by the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 to regulate film content for the following reasons:

  1. Protect children from exposure to harmful content.
  2. Ensure that films and broadcast content conform to Kenya's culture, moral values, and national aspirations.

Yes. KFCB is a State agency under the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs.

It was established in 1998 under the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya 

 

The time between 5am and 10pm within which only content suitable for viewing/listening by the entire family should be aired

KFCB offers services at the Nairobi Film Centre (formerly Nairobi Cinema) to support youth talent through the “Sinema Mashinani” initiative in partnership with our stakeholders. 

All licences are available on the online portal on www.kfcb.go.ke. You can also access our services in any of our offices countrywide.We are in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nyeri, Embu and Garissa.

No. You don't need any other filming licence apart from that from KFCB.

But you may require a licence from other relevant agencies for activities like the use of drones in filming.

 

The Board examines and classifies content for age appropriateness to protect vulnerable populations – such as children – from exposure to harmful content.

We have regional offices in Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret, Embu, Nyeri and Garissa.

 

Public Service Vehicles who double up as film exhibitors must obtain licences from KFCB.
