Board's Consultative Meeting with META and Eveminet Limited Officials

The Kenya Film Classification Board Management, led by the Ag. CEO Mr. Christopher Wambua, on 5th January 2023, held an introductory meeting with officials from Meta, led by Ms. Sylvia Musalagani, Safety Policy Manager for Africa, Middle East and Turkey, and Ms. Evelyn Kasina, the founder, Eveminet Communications Solutions Limited.

The virtual meeting explored areas of mutual collaboration between KFCB, Meta and Eveminet Communications Solutions Limited, especially on Online Child Safety, the Parental Digital Literacy Programme (PaDiL) that the Board plans to roll-out, among other issues.

Mr. Wambua said that the PaDiL programme that targets parents and caregivers aims at promoting responsible digital parenting and viewing practices among consumers of online content, especially children.

The programme also seeks to empower parents and caregivers with skills on how to monitor and guide children on content access through various digital platforms as well as enhance parents' awareness on emerging technologies.

The Ag. CEO reiterated KFCB’s commitment to work with Meta and other stakeholders on programs aimed at protecting children from exposure to harmful content as well as creating a conducive regulatory environment for the industry to thrive. 

Mr. Wambua noted that collaboration with Meta is also key in content monetization, adding that Meta’s platforms provide an avenue for content creators to earn.

Ms. Musalagani noted that Meta has taken various measures among them parental control tools to protect minors from exposure to harmful content. 

She lauded the Board’s PaDiL programme, noting that it resonates with Meta’s programmes on safety and community policy.

Ms. Kasina on her part said that collaboration is key in championing the child online safety agenda.
