A film distributor is any person who sells, supplies, or lets for hire; offering or agreeing to sell, supply or let for hire, or cause or permit to be sold, supplied or hired within Kenya.
We regulate film distribution by registering distributors to ensure they transact business in compliance with the law – Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222.
Anyone intending to distribute films is required to register with us to get a distribution certificate.
As part of our service charter, we process this authorisation in 10-15 minutes upon receipt of a complete application.
Film distributors include movie shops, video libraries, video shops, hawkers, video game shops and online film vendors.

A film exhibitor is any person who displays a film to the public or a section of the public, whether for a fee or not.
We regulate film exhibition by registering exhibitors to ensure they operate within the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222.
Anyone exhibiting a film must register with us to get an exhibition certificate.
We process this certification within 10-15 minutes of receiving a complete application.
Film distributors include cinema theatre, video show, play station/video game, and outdoor digital billboard.
