Creatives in Arts and Film Literacy Program Rolled Out in Nakuru City
Hundreds of creatives drawn from Nakuru City and its environs turned up for the Creative in Arts and Film Literacy (CAFIL) Program, held at the Hotel Kunste, on Thursday 19th September 2024.
Dubbed: #UsaniiSafe4All, the CAFIL Program, an initiative of the KFCB in collaboration with the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund (SASDF), is tailored to empower creatives in Arts and Film to create content that upholds Kenya's cultural values while safeguarding children from exposure to inappropriate audio-visual content. The Program will be rolled out to other regions across Kenya.
While addressing creatives and other stakeholders during the CAFIL Nakuru Edition, KFCB’s Ag. Chief Manager, Corporate Services, Ms. Nelly Muluka, reaffirmed the KFCB’s commitment to creating a facilitative regulatory environment that will spur the growth of the film industry.
Ms. Muluka said that the CAFIL Program aligns with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the Talanta Hela Initiative, as well as Kenya’s Vision 2030 which recognizes Creative Arts as a driver for youth empowerment.
“By implementing and supporting initiatives that are geared towards talent nurturing and monetization, the KFCB hopes to contribute to a thriving cultural economy that supports socio-economic development,” she said.
She reaffirmed that KFCB will continue to engage with all stakeholders in formulating and implementing regulatory interventions and programs that will support the growth of the film sector.
“Our focus is to provide a supportive regulatory environment for creatives to showcase and monetize their creativity,” Ms. Muluka reiterated.
The Ag. Chief Manager, Corporate Services, further pointed out that the KFCB has proposed a review of various regulatory frameworks that once ratified will make obtaining licenses easier for filmmakers, as well as promote the ‘ease’ of doing business for the industry stakeholders.
Apart from Kisumu, Nakuru, Embu, and Mombasa, the CAFIL program which targets stakeholders in the creative industry, will be rolled out to other regions in Kenya.
