Government Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Empowerment

The Principal Secretary (PS) for the State Department of Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, Mr. Fikirini Jacobs, has reiterated the Government's commitment to advancing youth empowerment across the country, emphasizing that young people are the cornerstone of Kenya’s sustainable development agenda.
Speaking on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Hon. Salim Mvurya, EBS, during the Garissa Youth Summit held on 11th October 2025, at Garissa University, PS Jacobs encouraged young people to leverage the numerous Government initiatives aimed at enhancing skills, promoting innovation, and building economic resilience.
The PS made a special call for youth to register and apply for the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) program - a flagship initiative designed to support and uplift young Kenyans.
“I encourage all young people across the nation to seize this opportunity - register, participate, and become part of this transformative initiative aimed at empowering our youth and unlocking their potential,” said PS Jacobs.
On the sidelines of the event, the Kenya Film Classification Board team, led by Garissa Regional Manager, Mr. Issa Dagane, sensitized participants on the Board’s mandate and key programs.
The KFCB team also distributed copies of the Regulator’s Handbook for Film Practitioners in Kenya to local creatives. This initiative reaffirms the Board’s commitment to nurturing the creative economy by supporting filmmakers in showcasing and monetizing their talent.
As a Government agency mandated by the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 to regulate the creation, broadcasting, possession, distribution and exhibition of film and broadcast content in Kenya, KFCB remains committed to providing a facilitative regulatory environment that fosters the growth of Kenya’s film industry and the broader Orange Economy in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Regulation of film and broadcast content is meant to ensure that audio-visual content intended for public exhibition conforms to Kenya’s culture, moral values and National aspirations, as well as to protect children and vulnerable adults from exposure to inappropriate or harmful content.
