Board's Participation at Inaugural Kenya Theatre Awards

The Kenya Film Classification Board participated at the inaugural Kenya Theatre Awards (KTA) held at the Kenya National Theatre, Nairobi on Thursday 17th February, 2022.
Ms. Nelly Muluka, the Corporate Communications Manager, represented the Board's Ag. CEO Mr. Christopher Wambua at the colourful Awards Gala organized by the Kenya International Theatre Festival (KITFEST).
The Awards recognized outstanding productions, artistes in Performing Arts, Theatre, Film, Music and other art genres as well as the legacy of artistes who have become icons.
As part of enhancing ties with the theatre industry, the Board supported the Awards through printing of co-branded certificates.
In her remarks during the event, Ms. Muluka said the Board recognizes works of art such as theatre, story-telling, film and poetry, and performing arts as powerful tools for promoting Kenya's cultural diversity and cohesion as well as an avenue for job and wealth creation.
"We also recognize Creative Arts as a vehicle for social change and its key role in promoting and safeguarding Kenya’s culture, moral values, national aspirations and socio-economic transformation," she said.
The Corporate Communications Manager further said that KFCB remains committed to supporting initiatives that are meant to empower and mentor local creatives.
While urging creatives to support the Board's clarion call for creation and consumption of clean content, Ms. Muluka stated that content does not have to be dirty in order to sell or entertain.
She reaffirmed the Board's commitment to continue working with like-minded partners in executing its regulatory mandate as stipulated in the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya.
"Our primary mandate as a regulatory Board is to regulate film and broadcast content to ensure that it conforms to Kenya’s culture, moral values and national aspirations as well as to protect children from exposure to harmful/adult content," she said.
The event was graced by Government and private sector officials, representatives from Embassies, artistes among others.
