KFCB Champions Child Online Safety, Calls for Responsible Social Media Use
The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has pledged to continue working with public and private sector stakeholders on initiatives and campaigns aimed at promoting child online safety in the evolving digital landscape.
Speaking on Friday, 13th February 2026, during a sensitisation forum for security and compliance officers from Nairobi City County, among other participants, Mr Marcos Masiga, KFCB’s Acting Manager, Licensing, stated that protecting children and vulnerable adults from exposure to harmful audio-visual content is a collective responsibility and remains central to the Board’s mandate.
“As a Board mandated to regulate film and broadcast content in Kenya, KFCB will continue to work with stakeholders to advance awareness campaigns, especially on child online safety, while ensuring that audio-visual content conforms to Kenya’s values and national aspirations,” he said.

Masiga also called for the ethical and responsible use of social media platforms, particularly emerging AI applications, to promote digital hygiene and protect minors from age-inappropriate material.
He emphasised that the regulation of audio-visual content is intended to create a facilitative environment that spurs growth in the film sector, adding that KFCB remains open to supporting initiatives aimed at empowering both creators and consumers of audio-visual content.
In partnership with other stakeholders, KFCB is rolling out targeted campaigns through the Parents and Digital Literacy Programme (PADIL), among others, to equip parents with skills to guide their children in consuming content responsibly,” he added.

Mr. Wilson Gakuya, Chief Officer, Digital Economy at Nairobi City County, while speaking at the event, echoed calls for the responsible and ethical use of the internet. He noted that the County Government is committed to collaborating with stakeholders such as KFCB to enhance digital safety awareness and create opportunities for creatives to spur industry growth.

Other speakers at the event, which was organised to mark Safer Internet Day 2026, included Ms Grace Mungai, Founder of Talent Plus Academy; a representative from Watoto Watch Network; and Ms. Elizabeth Ndung’u, Director of Digital Economy and Startups at Nairobi City County.
