Public Sensitization at St. Mary’s Girls’ High School, Kakamega

The Kenya Film Classification Board participated in the annual ‘St. Mary’s Mumias Girls' High School English Day’ held on 12th November, 2021, under the theme: Incorporating Figures of Speech. 


Ms. Nelly Muluka, the Board's Corporate Communications Manager, represented the Board at the colorful event that saw best students/classes in various categories awarded with KFCB branded trophies, gift hampers, reading materials and other goodies. 


The Annual English Day is geared towards mentoring students and guiding them on their career paths and the available opportunities in the job market/ industry. During the Day, students compete in different challenges such as puzzles, spellings, cloze tests among others. 


The Board leveraged on the event and sensitized more than 1,300 students, teachers and non-teaching staff on its regulatory mandate, clean content campaigns, and talent based programs as well as on the need for the youths/students to use social media platforms responsibly.

In her remarks, Ms. Muluka, noted that institutions of learning from Early Childhood Development (ECD) to the University level are among the Board’s key stakeholders in the campaigns for creation and consumption of clean content under the Media Literacy Program dubbed: #YouAreWhatYouConsume and Public Sensitization.


“The Board has continued to leverage on the partnership with institutions of learning across the country and other stakeholders to create consumer awareness on clean content, the protection of children from harmful content and to ensure compliance to the requirements of the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya for both creatives and consumers of broadcast content,” Ms Muluka said.

She added that the Board is collaborating with institutions of learning to identify and nurture talents under the Sinema Mashinani Initiative aimed at creating job opportunities and wealth in line with the Big Four Agenda and Vision 2030.


At the same time, Ms Muluka, urged parents, caregivers and guardians to be vigilant and monitor the content their children are consuming on TV, radio and other broadcast channels, stating that KFCB will continue empowering parents and caregivers with the requisite skills and knowledge to monitor content children are consuming online through our Digital Parenting and Child Online Protection programme.

Ms. Muluka urged students to exercise discipline and shun activities/behaviors that will taint their careers and life.


“Students must understand that there are no shortcuts to success, nothing comes easy in life and they should therefore, trust the process by working hard and being discipline,” she said.
