KFCB and Cape Media Commit to Strengthen Regulatory Compliance, Enhance Consumer Safety and Drive Audiovisual Industry Growth

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), a State agency under the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, and Cape Media Limited  have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regulatory compliance, enhancing consumer safety, and creating an enabling environment for industry growth through enhanced collaboration.

The commitment was made during a strategic meeting held on Thursday, 20th August 2026, between the KFCB Management team, led by the Ag. CEO, Nelly Muluka, and Cape Media CEO, Mr. Mwenda Njoka, MBS.

The discussions focused on regulatory compliance and key areas of possible partnership, with particular emphasis on consumer protection and awareness initiatives aimed at promoting safe and responsible media consumption.

During the meeting, the Ag. CEO Nelly Muluka , highlighted KFCB’s regulatory mandate, programmes and key initiatives, including the Self-Classification Framework, the Parental Digital Literacy (PaDiL) Programme, KFCB’s state-of-the-art Cine-Mobile unit, and the Nairobi Film Centre, among others, all tailored towards creating an enabling environment  to spur the growth of the film and broadcast industry.

While commending Cape Media for complying with regulatory requirements and prioritising local content across its platforms, she reaffirmed KFCB’s commitment to working closely with broadcasters to promote responsible broadcasting practices and strengthen consumer protection mechanisms in line with the Board’s regulatory mandate.

To fast-track collaboration in the identified areas of mutual interest, a technical team comprising representatives from Kenya Film Classification Board and Cape Media Limited was formed, with timelines set ahead of signing of a formal agreement.

On his part, Mr. Njoka lauded KFCB for creating an enabling environment for stakeholders in the film and broadcast industry and its efforts to promote child online safety through the regulation of audiovisual content.
