KFCB Cautions Against Audiovisual Content that May Promote Hate Speech, Incitement to Violence and Propaganda for War 

In classifying audiovisual content, the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), a State regulatory agency, is guided by the Film Classification Guidelines established under the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap. 222. The Guidelines provide a framework for classification across six thematic areas, namely: Violence and Crime; Sex, Obscenity and Nudity; Occult and Horror; Drugs, Alcohol and Other Harmful Substances; Religion and Community; and Propaganda for War, Hate Speech and Incitement.

As the country approaches the electioneering period, KFCB cautions against the creation, possession, distribution, broadcasting, or public exhibition of audiovisual content that may promote propaganda for war, spread hate speech, or incite to violence.

The Board remains committed to working closely with other Government agencies and relevant stakeholders to safeguard public spaces from audiovisual content that may undermine peace and social cohesion, and to support a safe and peaceful public discourse while respecting freedom of expression.

The KFCB regulates audiovisual content for age-suitability and to ensure that children and/minors, as well as vulnerable adults, are protected from exposure to harmful or inappropriate content.

Members of the public are encouraged to report to KFCB, which is a trusted flagger, any audiovisual content deemed inappropriate via info@kfcb.go.ke for further action.
