The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has called on creatives to take advantage of Government programmes geared toward expanding opportunities within the creative economy, while upholding responsible content creation.
Speaking at the Usanii Conference held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Dagoretti South Empowerment Centre, KFCB’s Head of Licensing for the Nairobi Region, Victor Okello, said the Board is committed to fostering a facilitative regulatory environment that enables the film sector to flourish.
He noted that KFCB has aligned its initiatives with the Fifth Pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Mr. Okello also briefed attendees on KFCB’s regulatory mandate under the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222, and outlined the programmes the Board is implementing to support industry growth.
Organised by Nairobi Film Production (NFP), a community-based organisation in partnership with other stakeholders, the forum sought to provide a platform for showcasing artistic innovation while addressing key challenges facing creatives.
This year’s theme, “Empowering the Creatives, Fostering Innovation, and Shaping Africa's Creative Economy”, highlighted skills development, innovation, monetisation, and funding opportunities. Participants received practical insights on how to convert their craft into sustainable livelihoods.

The event was attended by representatives from various Government agencies, including the Kenya Film Commission (KFC), the National Employment Authority (NEA), and the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, alongside private-sector partners.
KFCB, a State Corporation under the State Department for Youth Affairs and the Creative Economy, is mandated to regulate film and broadcast content in Kenya.
Regulation is meant to protect children and vulnerable groups from exposure to inappropriate content while ensuring that content conforms to Kenya's culture, National values and aspirations.
