KFCB Committed To Supporting Talent-Based Initiatives in line with Talanta Hela Initiative

As a State agency in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, the Kenya Film Classification Board, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives geared towards promoting and showcasing youth talents across the country.
While addressing participants during the Kiio Wambua Foundation Football Tournament held on 1st June 2024, at the Kitui Stadium, Ms. Nelly Muluka, the KFCB’s Ag. Chief Manager, Corporate Services and Administration noted that KFCB has aligned some of its programs to the Talanta Hela Initiative, which aims at monetizing talents identifying, nurturing, and developing them; thus, enabling the youths to earn a decent livelihood.
While noting that sports and the creative economy are among the lucrative sectors that have the potential to create job opportunities and generate wealth, she advised the youths to take their talents seriously and tap into the opportunities offered under the Talanta Hela Initiative as well as the larger Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
“As KFCB we are working closely with our Parent Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy and Sports, as well as other partners to support youth talents across the country, besides ensuring a facilitative regulatory environment to spur the growth of the film sector,” she said.
While reiterating the KFCB’s role in regulating the creation, distribution, broadcasting, possession, and exhibition of film and broadcast content, Ms. Muluka advised the youths to consume audio-visual content responsibly, noting that the internet does not forget.
The KFCB team leveraged on the platform to sensitize thousands of participants about the Board’s mandate and programs. This was key in realizing the Board’s PC targets on consumer awareness for FY 2023/2024, as well as enhancing the Board’s brand visibility and cementing collaboration with like-minded stakeholders as envisioned in the Board’s Stakeholder Engagement Policy.
The KFCB has continued to collaborate with like-minded government and private sector institutions on programs geared towards creating consumer awareness its mandate and programs under the Media Literacy Programme dubbed: #YouAreWhatYouConsume in line with its consumer advisory role as provided for in the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222, of the Laws of Kenya.
“The Parents Digital Literacy Program (PaDiL) is among the KFCB's consumer awareness initiatives whose objective is to empower parents and guardians with skills on how to monitor and guide children on content access through various digital platforms, as well as enhance parents' awareness on emerging technologies in a bid to protect minors from exposure to harmful audio-visual content,” she stated.
Senator Enoch Wambua lauded the partners who contributed towards making the football bonanza a success, noting that promoting youths’ talents is a collective responsibility.
He further applauded KFCB’s role in protecting children from exposure to inappropriate content through regulation of film and broadcast content, noting that the KFCB has also been a key partner in promoting youth talent across the country.
“We are grateful to KFCB for their support in the 2024 edition of the Kiio Wambua Foundation Football Tournament and we look forward to future collaboration on matters protecting children from harmful content,” he said.
The annual Kiio Wambua Foundation Football tournament, which brought together more than 1000 football fanatics and other participants was part of the senator’s initiatives to promote and showcase youth talents within Kitui County.
The Board's participation and support in the Football bonanza was in line with our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy under the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) and the Stakeholder Engagement Policy.
