Licensing Film Agents and Filmmakers

Registration of Film Agents

We register film agents to ensure they comply with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222, Laws of Kenya.

A film agent is an authorised representative (local film production company) of a foreign film practitioner or enterprise registered by the Board.

Film agents are crucial in providing logistical support to foreign film and television producers planning to film in Kenya.

The agents offer the following services:

  1. Facilitating permit acquisition
  2.  Arranging entry through Customs and Immigration;
  3.  Location scouting;
  4.  Talent acquisition;
  5. Crew sourcing;
  6. Equipment supply;
  7.  Accommodation and logistics, etc.

All film production companies intending to offer these services must obtain an annual certificate of registration upon being registered as film agents.

We execute the registration in 10-15 minutes upon receipt of a complete application.

An applicant must provide the following documents:

  1. Certificate of Registration/Incorporation of Company
  2. KRA PIN Certificate
  3. Professional Certificate in audio-visual media production/ film making
  4. List of Equipment (for those who own equipment ONLY)

Both initial certificate applications and renewals cost Ksh12,000 each.

 

Filming Licences

 

We issue filming licences to local and foreign film makers within Kenyan in line with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222, Laws of Kenya.

Therefore, no film shall be made in Kenya without a filming licence from us.

We process filming permits for TV series and full-length feature films within 48 hours upon receipt of the application.

Likewise, we process permits for short productions within 10-25 minutes.

Further, applicants should provide the required documents as shown below:

IMPORTANT: Please note that a filming licence is issued for the production of a specific project, for the specific period as indicated in the shooting schedule. 

The licence expires upon the lapse of the dates indicated.

However, in case one requires additional filming days for the license issued, we must be notified before the expiry of the licence.

In this regard, the applicant will be required to pay for each additional day.
