Mr. Joel Wamalwa is the Acting CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) - the State agency mandated to regulate Film and Broadcast Content in Kenya.
Mr. Wamalwa has extensive and vast experience in civil, research and implementation of multi-stakeholders’ programmes, co-ordination and management of donor funded programmes, having worked with the Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis(KIPPRA), the University of Nairobi (UoN) and the World Bank.
Prior to his appointment as the Ag. CEO, Mr. Wamalwa, was the Manager in charge of Licensing and Compliance at the Kenya Film Classification Board. His duties included: General administration and coordination of licensing and compliance function across the Board’s regional offices as well as overseeing film and broadcast content classification.
Before joining KFCB, he was the Chief Officer in the County Government of Kakamega,where he managed various programmes such as the Urban Cleaning Programme, Urban Infrastructure Development Programme, World Bank Municipal Programme grant and the Kenya Urban Support Programme grant, among others.
As the Programme Coordinator for the World Bank Lands Resources, Mr. Wamalwa carried out the Total Economic Valuation (TEV) of Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) districts in Kenya for the Ministry of Northern Kenya and Other Arid Lands and Implementation of the Kenya Municipal Programme (KMP) Key Result Areas (KRAs).
He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Makerere University and a Masters Degree in Environmental Planning from the UoN. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Environmental Economics and Planning.
He has also attended an array of short professional courses and written various Research Papers and Manuscripts on Environmental Planning and Management.
