KFCB Develops Regulators’ Handbook to Empower Filmmakers

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) in partnership with other regulatory Government agencies, whose mandates impact the film industry, recently developed a Regulators’ Handbook for Film Practitioners in Kenya.
The Handbook provides simplified information on film regulation, tax obligations of film practitioners and tax incentives they could benefit from, guidelines on filming in National parks, the use of drones in filming, copyright laws for protecting the intellectual property rights of filmmakers, and data protection requirements for filming, among other filming-related requirements.
As a Government agency mandated by the Films and Stage Play Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya, to regulate the creation, possession, broadcasting, distribution, and exhibition of film and broadcast content, the KFCB remains committed to collaborating with industry stakeholders to ensure a facilitative regulatory environment that spurs the growth of the film sector, creating job opportunities and wealth.
