KFCB Encourages Students to Harness Technology for Career Growth in Media and Film
The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has encouraged students pursuing film and media studies to harness technology in pursuit of their careers. Speaking during a sensitisation and mentorship forum for students undertaking Journalism, Media and Communication studies at the University of Embu on 5th February, 2026, the Board observed that technology is a critical enabler of career growth and the future of work.

During the interactive session, facilitated by officers from KFCB in collaboration with Embu University, the students were further advised to embrace responsible media creation and consumption, highlighting the Board’s mandate under the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya.

"We encourage students to embrace technology and also take advantage of the interventions such as the KFCB ‘Gratis Licence’ meant for educational, non-commercial projects, as provided for by law, to build practical skills and develop market-ready content." the KFCB team said. Learners also gained insights into emerging opportunities in Kenya’s vibrant film and media sector, including content distribution channels, collaboration platforms for emerging creatives, and key Creative Economy initiatives that support youth-led productions.

Institutions of higher learning remain key partners in KFCB’s Media Literacy and Public Sensitisation efforts under the #YouAreWhatYouConsume campaign, which promotes responsible creation and consumption of audio-visual content while raising awareness of government programs, services, and emerging opportunities within the Creative Economy
