KFCB Engages Creatives and Parents in Film and Media Awareness Drive in Elgeyo Marakwet
On Friday 28th November 2025 in the picturesque rolling hills of Kapchorwa, Keiyo South Constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet County, officers from the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) had the pleasure of engaging with vibrant young creatives, learners and parents during the 4th Edition of the Kapchorwa Youth Empowerment Programme (KYP).
We were excited to equip them with key insights on film regulation, responsible content creation and consumption, and the crucial role of parents in guiding minors on safe and appropriate audio-visual content, as well as the various initiatives - including the Creatives in Arts and Film Literacy (CAFIL) Programme - that the Board is implementing to spur the growth of Kenya’s creative economy in line with the fifth pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The sensitization forum, organized by our sister agency, the Kenya Film Commission (KFC), in partnership with the Kapchorwa Youth Empowerment Programme and other partners - also provided an opportunity for the KFCB team to unpack the Board’s Consumer Advisory Role and reinforce our call for responsible creation and consumption of film and broadcast content.
The KFCB team urged parents and caregivers to closely monitor the audio-visual content children are consuming on media and digital platforms, and to guide them appropriately, especially during this time when learners are at home for the December holiday.

During the forum, the KFCB team was honored to host H.E. Prof. Grace Cheserek, Deputy Governor, County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet who visited our exhibition booth.
The Deputy Governor lauded KFCB’s programmes aimed at empowering both upcoming and established filmmakers through facilitative regulation.
Themed: the “Future with Youth and Creative Arts,” the empowerment forum brought together creatives, learners from secondary schools, TVET institutions, colleges, universities, and youth innovation hubs across Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The KFCB remains committed to equipping young creatives with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the film regulatory landscape, while also supporting initiatives geared towards talent showcasing, monetization, and sensitization for consumers of film and broadcast content.
