KFCB Keen on Supporting Local Creative Industry

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) is committed to working with public and private sector agencies on initiatives meant to support the growth of the local creative industry, the Board's Corporate Communications Manager Ms. Nelly Muluka has said.
Speaking on behalf of the Board at the 3rd Kenya Film Summit, Gala Awards, on Friday 23rd September 2022, at the Kenyatta University, Ms. Muluka said that KFCB recognizes Creative Arts as the vehicle for social change and transformation.
"The role of Creative Arts in promoting and safeguarding our culture, moral values, national aspirations, and socio-economic transformation cannot be ignored, "she said.
Ms. Muluka urged local filmmakers to take advantage of the opportunities in the industry to thrive.
"As the Board mandated to regulate the creation, possession, broadcasting, distribution and exhibition of film and broadcast content, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that nurture local filmmakers, such as the Kenya Film Summit," she said.

Ms. Muluka called upon filmmakers and content creators to adhere to the provisions of the Stage Plays Act, Cap 222, by acquiring filming licenses, as well as submitting their content for examination and classification for age suitability.
To empower local creatives, Ms. Muluka said that the Board is spearheading the Sinema Mashinani initiative that is geared towards creating job opportunities for the youths.
The Summit is an initiative of the Film Lecturers and Trainers Association of Kenya (FLeTA-K) and brings together local filmmakers, film students, both public and private sector agencies whose mandate relates to film marketing and regulation.
This year's Kenya Film Summit theme was "Film Production as a Driver for Online Learning. The objective of the Summit is to initiate a discourse on film research in Kenya, provide a platform for the presentation of research papers on Kenyan and African cinema, showcase and award films produced by students.
