KFCB Lauds the Producers of the 'Queen' Feature Film

On Sunday, February 2, 2025, officials from the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) witnessed the filming of a feature film titled, ‘Queen’, at the Parliament Road and Aga Khan Walk in Nairobi CBD.
Produced by The Ascent Films Limited, the Queen tells a story of the friendship between Anna, a British journalist sent to Kenya in 1997, and Queen, who lives in Nairobi's largest slum. Empowerment and liberation are the themes that lead the two of them on a journey together, which in reality is a declaration of war.
During the filming, the KFCB, led by Mr Victor Okello, Regional Head, Nairobi, interacted with the crew and lauded the film producers for compliance, by obtaining a 30-day filming license.
The Board also leveraged the platform to sensitize the production crew about the recent redefinition of the Role of Film Agents and encouraged freelance filmmakers to register with the KFCB as local filmmakers to enhance their professional standing and recognition.
The crew were also handed copies of the KFCB’s recently developed Regulators’ Handbook for Film Practitioners in Kenya aimed at creating awareness of requirements in a simplified way.
The filming activity involved 868 foreign and local cast and crew contributing to job creation and knowledge and skill transfer to our local filmmakers.
As a government agency mandated by the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya, to regulate the creation, possession, broadcasting, distribution, and exhibition of film and broadcast content, the KFCB remains committed to collaborating with industry stakeholders to ensure a facilitative regulatory environment that spurs the growth of the film sector, creating job opportunities and wealth.
