KFCB to Partner with KEPSA in the Parental Digital Literacy Programme

Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) officers led by the Ag. CEO Mr. Christopher Wambua, today, 18th October, 2022, held a meeting with representatives from the Kenya Private Schools Association (KEPSA) led by their Ag. CEO Mr. Bande Symon.
The meeting explored areas of collaboration in the Board’s Parental Digital Literacy Programme (PaDiL) which seeks to promote responsible digital parenting and appropriate viewing practices for consumers of online content.
The program also aims to strengthen parents’ capacity to handle tech-savvy children from an informed point of view.
Mr. Wambua noted that there is a need for collaboration and capacity building for both parents and teachers so as to ensure that children are not exposed to inappropriate content and especially the internet.
The Ag. CEO said that the Program is also aimed at creating parents’ awareness on emerging technologies, noting that some cartoons and online games being accessed by children are inappropriate or pose a risk of influencing the children, therefore parental guidance is recommended.
“There is a need to safeguard our culture as well as our national values, and guide our children on responsible content consumption,” he added.

On his part, Mr. Symon affirmed KEPSA's support towards the Parental Digital Program, noting that digital transformation has come up with many challenges, especially in content consumption among children, hence the need for collaboration in sensitizing learners on responsible content consumption.
“Teachers need to be engaged in such programs aimed at protecting our children from exposure to inappropriate content since they are at the focal point and interact with the children for many hours,” he added.
The Board remains committed to partnerships with other like-minded organizations in creating awareness on clean content consumption under the Board’s consumer advisory function and Media Literacy Program dubbed: #YouAreWhatYouConsume.
