KFCB Urges Filmmakers to Create ‘Clean Content’ for Monetization

KFCB Urges Filmmakers to Create ‘Clean Content’ for Monetization

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has urged established and upcoming filmmakers to create clean content for monetization.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of the Creatives in Arts and Film Literacy Program forum in Kirinyaga County, KFCB’s Ag CEO Mr. Paskal Opiyo, noted that audio-visual content that is rated GE (General Exhibition) and PG (Parental Guidance) has a wider audience.

The CEO further observed that it is easier to monetize content that is for general family viewing, noting that the current Box Office 2024 top movies are either rated as GE or PG.

“Our appeal is to creatives to produce content that conforms to Kenya’s culture, moral values, and National aspirations,” Mr. Opiyo said, adding that the KFCB is committed to ensuring a facilitative regulatory environment for local filmmakers and content creators to monetize their creative works for job opportunities and wealth creation.

“We are committed to ensuring that we provide the necessary interventions to filmmakers and creatives to help them monetize their talents,” he said.

Through initiatives like the Creatives in Arts and Film Literacy (CAFIL), the Ag CEO said that the KFCB in collaboration with other Government agencies whose mandates impact the Orange Economy seeks to empower filmmakers with information and other necessary interventions to spur the growth of the industry,” he said.

Mr. Opiyo refuted claims that the KFCB is out to stifle creativity, noting that regulation of film and broadcast content does not infringe on the rights of creatives.

In a bid to provide support to the film sector, especially content monetization, Mr. Opiyo indicated that the KFCB has anchored its programs to the Fifth Pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
