Mizani Series Premiere: KFCB Reaffirms Support for Film and TV Sector Growth
The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) on Thursday 5th February 2026 joined industry leaders, policymakers, and creatives from across the film and television sectors at the official premiere of Mizani, the first Showmax original series produced in Mombasa. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Daudi Anguka, the blockbuster series also features other notable actors, including Stephanie Maseki, Kieth Chuaga, Jack Mutinda and Denis Humphrey. The series has been classified by KFCB and given a rating of 16 in line with the Film Classifiable Elements provided for in the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap. 222 of the Laws of Kenya.

The event was presided over by Mr. Fikirini Jacobs, PS, State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, who assured creatives and stakeholders present of the Government’s commitment to growing the Orange Economy through policy formulation, empowerment initiatives, and other supportive measures. The KFCB Ag. CEO Ms. Nelly Muluka, in a speech read by the ICT Manager, Ms. Petronilla Mueni, reiterated KFCB’s commitment to growing the film industry through targeted interventions. “As a regulatory board, we commend AR Productions, the creators of Mizani, for their continued dedication to nurturing local talent, producing quality content, and complying with regulatory requirements,” the Ag. CEO said.

She emphasized that KFCB continues to position itself not only as a regulator but also as an enabler of growth within the creative economy. “A thriving film and television industry requires a regulatory environment that is predictable, responsive, and supportive of innovation,” she added.

While outline KFCB’s interventions and support, including the proposed regulatory reforms, programs such as Creatives in Arts and Film Literacy (CAFIL) and Parents Digital Literacy (PADIL), the Ag CEO urged filmmakers to increase local content production, citing a ready and growing market.

Other industry leaders, policymakers and creatives who addressed participants during the event called for collective stakeholder collaboration in spurring the growth of Kenya’s film and television sectors.
