The Kenya Film Classification Board has called upon students pursuing careers in Film, Media studies, and Journalism to leverage on technology to enhance their employability, as well as create opportunities in the digital space.

While addressing Film, Media, and Journalism students at the NIBS Technical College, Ruiru Campus, during a Career Workshop, held on Friday 12th April 2024, Mr. Victor Okello, KFCBโ€™s Head of Licensing, Nairobi Region, said that technology is an enabler that learners should leverage on to advance their studies.

โ€œTechnology is the new norm and we urge learners, especially those pursuing courses in the Creative Economy to leverage on it for their benefit,โ€ Okello said, noting that the Government through flagship programs such as the #TalantaHela Initiative, is committed to monetizing talents and creating a platform for young people to showcase their creativity, as well as get some money in their pockets, sloganed: Pesa Mfukoni.

He also advised students and upcoming content creators to take advantage of the programs that the Government is rolling out in the Creative Economy to grow their talent, while upholding responsible content creation and consumption.ย

While sensitizing the learners about the Boardโ€™s mandate, Mr. Okello, who was accompanied by other officers of the Board, reaffirmed KFCB's commitment to creating a facilitative regulatory environment for the creative industry to thrive, stating that the Board has aligned its programs to the Fifth Pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), as well as the Talanta Hela Initiative, being championed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports.

He further urged students pursuing film to take advantage of the gratis license issued by KFCB for educational projects and not commercial purposes, in line with the law, in their pursuit to create marketable content.

Institutions of learning are among the Boardโ€™s key stakeholders, especially in the Media Literacy Program and Public Sensitization dubbed: #YouAreWhatYouConsume, which seeks to create awareness on responsible creation and consumption of audiovisual content, as well as the awareness on Government programs, services and other opportunities in the Creative Economy space.

The public sensitization program is anchored on KFCBโ€™s Consumer Advisory role, as well as our PC targets for the FY 2023/2024.
