Protect Children from Inappropriate Content during the Mid-term Break

Schools are closed for the mid-term break and children will be home for the next few days, all through the weekend.

In line with our Consumer Advisory function, the Kenya Film Classification Board appeals to parents, guardians, and caregivers to monitor the audio-visual content that children are watching on TV, and accessing online, or other broadcast media channels and guide them appropriately.

We encourage parents to set screen-time rules and limit the amount of time children spend on TV and other broadcast channels.

The Board also urges content creators to be mindful of the content that they post on various platforms that are likely to be accessed by children and minors.

Additionally, the KFCB cautions video show and play station operators and other film exhibitors against admitting children into their premises.

The Board remains committed to enhancing parent's awareness of emerging technologies through our Parents Digital Literacy Program (PADIL) to empower them with skills on how to monitor and guide children on content access and consumption through digital platforms.

The KFCB is a State agency mandated by the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya to regulate film and broadcast content to ensure that audio-visual content meant for exhibition or distribution in public spaces, conforms to Kenya's culture, National values, and aspirations.

Regulation is also meant to ensure that children and vulnerable adults are protected from exposure to inappropriate content, which in essence, is a collective responsibility.
