Protecting Children from Harmful Audio-Visual Content is a Collective Responsibility

In line with our consumer advisory role, the Kenya Film Classification Board, advises parents and caregivers to be vigilant and monitor the audio-visual content children under their care are accessing on TV, radio, internet and other broadcast channels and guide them appropriately.

While the Board is concerned about content and its effects on children and vulnerable adults, it is important to note that our mandate restricts the Board to the regulation of audio-visual and NOT audio content, unless it is filmed. This includes some genres such as songs that are not in video form, including the blasphemous 'Yesu Ninyandue' song.

In this regard, the Board advises content creators to adhere to the provisions of the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya in regard to the creation, distribution, broadcasting, possession and exhibition of audio-visual content to public spaces.
