The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Management held a sharing and learning session with a delegation from the Rwanda Legal Aid Forum, at the KFCB office in Nairobi on 13th December 2022,

During the Forum, which was led by the Board’s Ag. CEO Mr. Christopher Wambua and Mr. Emmanuel Mugisha, Executive Secretary, Rwanda Media Commission, the two entities shared issues related to the Board’s mandate, examination and classification of film and broadcast content, and licensing procedures, among other programs.

One key area that was exhaustively discussed was the KFCB's endeavour to create a facilitative environment for the creative industry to grow and flourish to the extent of creating job opportunities in line with the Kenya Kwanza Government Manifesto that projects to raise at least 1 million jobs annually.

The two entities also discussed the possibility of reforming the regulatory regime to allow for self-regulation but aligned to local ratings. The Board has already proposed a self-regulation framework with a view to involve the industry players in the examination and classification of audio-visual content.

The proposed harmonization of content classification among the African regulatory agencies, which is spearheaded by South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya regulatory Boards, was also deliberated upon.

KFCB is committed to working with like-minded organizations on programs and initiatives aimed at creating a conducive regulatory environment for the creative industry to thrive.
