Students must create and consume content responsibly, says Board

Mr. Victor Okello, a Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Film Registration Officer, has advised students to create as well as consume content responsibly. He was speaking during the Central and Eastern Regions' University Drama and Film students Workshop, held at the Kenyatta University Campus, Kitui County from 28th April to 1st May 2022.
The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in collaboration with other partners and brought together diverse participants including students, drama patrons from public and private universities across the country as well as facilitators from public and private-sector agencies.
The objective was to train and mentor students, patrons and creatives in readiness for the regional and national drama and film festival calendar.
The workshop also aimed at sensitizing participants, especially students and creatives, on their role in promoting peace through creative arts during this electioneering period.
Okello sensitized participants on the Board's regulatory mandate (Film Registration, Film Licensing, Examination and Classification, Compliance and Monitoring) as well as the provisions of the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap222 that establishes the Board.
He empathized on the importance of clean content creation as a life skill for students taking part in drama and film festivals and the need for students to consume film and broadcast content responsibly.
The Board continues to support activities under the Kenya National Drama and Film Festival (KNDFF) whose key objective is to identify and nurture talents while inculcating moral values among students.
KFCB remains committed to working with learning institutions (from the Early Childhood Development (ECD) to University level) and other public and private sector agencies in indentifying and nurturing students’ talents, besides executing its regulatory mandate.
