Students Urged to Media Consume Content Responsibly
Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) officers on 11th July 2024, sensitised students and teachers of the St Albertina Kiongwani Girls High School on responsible content consumption, the Board’s regulatory mandate as well as its programs, during the School's guidance and counselling forum.
While speaking to more than 700 students at the event, Beatrice Indimuli, Senior Compliance Officer, KFCB urged the students to be mindful of the content that they consume from various media platforms including social media, especially during school holidays when they have more access to the same. She added that media content has a huge influence towards moral development.
Ms. Indimuli also emphasised the need to use the internet positively towards learning and education gain.
KFCB continues to collaborate with institutions of learning especially in the Media Literacy Program and Public Sensitization dubbed: #YouAreWhatYouConsume, which seeks to create awareness on responsible consumption of audio-visual content.
Public sensitization is part of the KFCB’s Consumer Advisory function in line with our Strategic Plan 2022-2027 as well as our PC targets for the FY 2024/2025.
The KFCB is a State Corporation under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, mandated to regulate film and broadcast content to ensure that content conforms to Kenya’s culture, moral values, and National aspirations, as well as to protect children from exposure to inappropriate audio-visual content.
