What you Need to Know about Film Classification!

Are you a filmmaker or a content creator intending to exhibit or distribute your content/film to the public?
Please note that Part III, Section 12, of the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222, mandates the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) to ensure that no person exhibits any film at an exhibition to which the public is admitted or distributes such film unless he/she is registered as an exhibitor or distributor by the KFCB and issued with a certificate.
Further, the Board is mandated to ensure that no film or class of film is distributed, exhibited or broadcast, either publicly or privately, unless the Board has examined it and issued a certificate of approval. 
KFCB examines and classifies content for age-appropriateness using both internal and external examiners, while considering the following: Context and the overall theme of the content, the possible impact that the content might have on the audience, especially young ones, as well as the frequency and intensity of classifiable elements observed in a film.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗹𝘆: GE (General Exhibition), PG- (Parental Guidance), 16 (Unsuitable for persons under age of 16), and 18 (Adults Only). 
Film classification aims to provide consumer advice to enable individuals to make informed viewing choices for themselves and for any children under their care, as well as to protect children from exposure to disturbing and harmful content, and from premature exposure to adult experiences.
