Board Conducts Public Sensitization for Religious Broadcasters on the Proposed Films and Stage Plays Regulations

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) on Friday 30th June 2023, apprised representatives of various religious broadcasters and other stakeholders on the proposed Films and Stage Plays Regulations and Guidelines, as well as the Board's regulatory mandate, during a sensitization forum organized by the Digital Broadcasters Association (DBA).

The forum, which was held at the Biblical Conference Centre in Nairobi, was graced by stakeholders in the broadcast industry and sought to create awareness on the broadcast standards and compliance among religious broadcasters.

Mr. Paskal Opiyo, Ag. Chief Manager, Corporate Services, represented KFCB at the forum and urged stakeholders to support the Board as it implements its mandate, programmes and campaigns.

He affirmed the Board's commitment to creating a facilitative and conducive regulatory environment for the growth of the Creative Economy.

Through the regulations and guidelines, the Government has proposed a 15% reduction in licensing fees for local filmmakers. Licensing fees for foreign filmmakers will, however, not change.

The regulations also propose self-classification for broadcasters of audio-visual content on Video on Demand (VODs) and Over the Top (OTTs) platforms.

Also present at the sensitization forum were representatives from the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA), Media Council Kenya (MCK), Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) and the Kenya Christian Professional Forum (KCPF), among others.
