Board’s Participation at the Women in Film Winners’ Dinner 

The Kenya Film Classification Board was honoured to be part of the Winners' Dinner hosted and patronized by the First Daughter Miss Charlene Ruto at Weston Hotel, Nairobi on the night of 3rd   May 2023 in honour of the Winners' of the Women in Film Awards (WIFA). 

The pompous event that was organized by the Kenya Film and Television Professionals Association (KFTPA) in collaboration with the Charlene Ruto Foundation was graced by WIFA founder Dr. Susan Gitimu, Ezekiel Onyango, chair KFTPA and Mr. Timothy Owase, CEO Kenya Film Commission (KFC), among other dignitaries. 

The Awards, won through public nominations, sought to recognize all players in the film and television industry from the seasoned such as veteran Wanjiru Kinyanjui to upcoming such as Stacy, one of the youngest TV host in Kenya.

In her speech, Miss Ruto appreciated KFCB and KFC for gracing the occasion, lauding the efforts and strategies the institutions have put in place to facilitate the industry growth. 

In the same breath, she urged KFCB and KFC to give a keener focus on policies and programs that are geared towards nurturing the upcoming talents in the industry. 

While congratulating the winners, Ms. Emma Irungu, representing the Board, called upon the content creators to observe the law in regard to content creation, exhibition and distribution noting that content should add value not only to the creators but also to the consumers.

“As the content creators, exhibitors and distributors create jobs and wealth, the consumers should be left entertained, educated and informed”, she said.

Further, Ms Irungu urged players in the industry to participate in the ongoing stakeholder’s engagement process on the proposed Films and Stage Plays Regulations and Guidelines.
