Kenyans Against Gay Content, Opinion Poll Reveals

KFCB ran a poll on social media asking Kenyans if they support the Board’s ban on gay content and the response was a resounding YES. On Facebook, out of over 1000 respondents 99% voted in favor of the ban while on twitter it was 60% in support of the ban while 40% opposed. As if to buttress the Board’s firm stand against gay content in Kenya, Parliamentary Committee on ICT meeting in Mombasa yesterday said the proposed review of the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 will not consider legalization of gay content as homosexuality is outlawed in the Constitution. “Homosexuality is illegal in Kenya and will therefore not be a topic of discussion in my Committee when considering amendments to Cap 222.” said Committee Chairman Hon. William Kisang’. Additionally, the film Rafiki failed to qualify for Oscar’s nominations despite the court order allowing its screening for seven days up to 30th September as the Oscars Selection Committee settled for Supa Modo to represent Kenya in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.
