The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) is exploring a strategic collaboration with Nairobi City County and other key stakeholders to establish a vibrant Art District along Aga Khan Walk, aimed at boosting the creative economy.

Speaking on Friday, 27th February 2026, during a meeting at City Hall with Ms. Rosemary Kariuki, Nairobi City County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Inclusivity, Public Participation and Customer Service, KFCB Manager for Licensing, Mr. Marcos Masiga, said the proposed Art District will create employment opportunities for creatives and contribute significantly to the expansion of Kenya’s creative economy.

Mr. Masiga noted that the proposed project seeks to integrate arts and entertainment centres within a pedestrian-friendly corridor, incorporating Aga Khan Walk as an “Avenue of Stars” to celebrate local creative excellence.

“The proposed project aligns with the Nairobi Film Centre—formerly Nairobi Cinema—a facility managed by KFCB, which the Board provide as an affordable platform for creatives to showcase their talents,” Mr. Masiga said.

While welcoming the proposal, Ms. Kariuki observed that the project, once actualised, will significantly support local content creation and consumption while helping to revive the cinema-going culture in Nairobi City County.
