KFCB Hosts Women in Film and Television Officials to Advance Gender Equity in Film
The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) on Monday, 19th January 2026, hosted Dr. Inya Lawal, President of Women in Film and Television Africa (WIFT Africa), along with officials from Women in Film and Television Kenya (WIFT Kenya), in a strategic engagement aimed at strengthening collaboration and shaping a more inclusive, equitable, and vibrant film industry.
The delegation was received by the KFCB team, led by Ag. Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Nelly Muluka, who reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to championing gender equality and equity in the film sector through facilitative regulation.

The courtesy meeting provided a platform to formally introduce WIFT Kenya and its mandate, present WIFT Africa’s vision and its affiliation with Women in Film International (WIF), explore potential areas of collaboration and partnership with KFCB, particularly ahead of the official launch of WIFT Kenya, and discuss shared objectives in advancing gender equity and inclusive storytelling within Kenya’s film industry.
“As a government regulatory agency mandated to regulate film and broadcast content, KFCB is committed to amplifying women’s voices, promoting gender equity, and nurturing authentic, inclusive storytelling that reflects the diversity of Kenyan and African audiences,” said Ms. Muluka.

The Ag. CEO further expressed KFCB’s readiness to collaborate with WIFT Africa and WIFT Kenya in initiatives aimed at empowering women filmmakers and strengthening responsible, inclusive content creation in line with the Board’s Stakeholder Engagement Policy.
“KFCB remains a strategic partner in initiatives that uplift women in film and television, foster responsible content creation, and drive sustainable industry growth,” she added.

On her part, Dr. Lawal emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing gender equity in the film industry, noting that collaboration with institutions such as KFCB is crucial in creating an enabling environment where women filmmakers can thrive, tell authentic stories, and access opportunities across the value chain.
“Advancing gender equity in the film industry requires deliberate partnerships, supportive regulatory frameworks, and sustained investment in women’s voices and stories. We are encouraged by KFCB’s commitment and look forward to collaborating to create an inclusive and enabling environment for women filmmakers in Kenya and across Africa,” said Dr. Lawal.

KFCB remains committed to creating a facilitative regulatory environment to spur the growth of the film sector, for job opportunities and wealth creation, in line with the Government’s vision of transforming Kenya into a first-world nation.
