KFCB Meets with James Muigai Popularly Known as ‘Dj Afro’

Kenya Film Classification Board Management led by the CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua today held a meeting with Gikuyu TV General Manager James Muigai popularly known as DJ Afro to address public concerns over films aired by the station with vulgar language.
The meeting comes after the Board served a public notice to Gikuyu TV during yesterday’s press conference on unclassified content aired by the station that contains adult scenes and coarse language in contravention of CAP 222 of the Laws of Kenya and in particular the Watershed period.
The meeting resolved that Dj Afro and Gikuyu TV in general submit all their content for examination and classification for age suitability. Gikuyu TV committed to pulling down all unclassified content and ensure that all programs aired during the watershed period are suitable for family viewing.
In addition, Dj Afro informed the Board that he has, over the years, changed the nature of his content from vulgar to clean in a bid to rebrand and asked authorities, through KFCB, to help in confiscating and destroying all dirty films associated with him that is still being distributed in the country.
KFCB shall ensure that all films and broadcast content meant for public consumption reflect the moral values and aspirations of the Kenyan people and that children are at all times protected from premature exposure to adult or harmful media content.
