KFCB to set up a talent incubation hub at Daystar University

The Kenya Film Classification Board(KFCB) will partner with Daystar University to establish a talent incubation facility at the Daystar University- Athi River Campus.

Speaking while presiding over the East Africa Student Film Festival 2017 Awards held at the Daystar University ( Nairobi Campus ) as the Chief Guest, KFCB Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ezekiel Mutua said the project is part of the Board’s efforts to work with institutions of higher learning to promote gowth in the creative sector.

Dr. Mutua commended the university for organising the festival, saying the event showed the institution’s commitment to promote Creative Arts through the education system.

The CEO encouraged filmmakers to develop content that promotes values, adding that film is a powerful tool for fostering economic development and branding the country positively.

His sentiments were echoed by Daystar Universty Vice Chancellor Prof. Timothy Wachira, who said film is a powerful tool that can be used to promote social values and culture.

Prof. Wachira thanked the Board for supporting the festival, saying the university would strenghten its partnership with KFCB to facilitate growth in the creative sector.

The colourful ceremony brought together participants from various institutions of higher learning drawn from the East African region and graced by stakeholders in the creative sector as well as academia. Various universities were feted in recognition of their excellence in film production.

It was attended by Daystar Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. James Kombo, Dean of the School of Communication, Languages & Performing Arts Prof. Levi Obonyo, the France Embassy in Kenya audio-visual attache Mr. Rène Denis, media personalities Larry Madowo and Boniface Musambi, Actors Guild officials Chris Kamau and Florence Nduta, among other guests.

The Board was the official partner of the festival, with support from other sponsors, including the Kenya Film Commission, the Embassy of France in Kenya, the Ethiopian Embassy, Film Studios, Infinix, among others.
