Nigeria to Partner with KFCB in Promoting the Film Industry

Nigeria has committed to work with Kenya to ensure films distributed in the two countries comply with classification guidelines applicable in the respective regulatory jurisdictions.

The West African country has also sought partnership with the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) in creating awareness on content safety to protect children from being exposed to harmful film content.

Speaking when he paid KFCB a courtesy call earlier today Nigeria National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) Executive Director Mr. Adedayo Thomas said Nigerian regulator will pleased to work with KFCB to ensure that all Nigerian films distributed in Kenya are classified by both agencies in line with the law.

‘We encourage KFCB to seek clarification from NFVCB if they suspect any Nigerian film has not been classified”, said Mr. Adedayo, adding that for a Nigerian film to be distributed in Kenya, it must be classified by both NFVCB and KFCB. He warned that dealers in unclassified Nigerian films in Kenya will be arrested and deported to Nigeria for prosecution in collaboration with KFCB.

The Executive Director decried the rise in illegal translation of foreign films into local languages and expressed his agency’s interest in partnering with KFCB in establishing a continental content regulatory framework, enhancement of capacity and research.
